Presenting!!! Tiny Airplanes: Paintings by Nikki Virbitsky

Saturday, January 6th, 2007

Exhibit Opening & Reception: Saturday Jan 13th 5-9pm
Please join Mew Gallery in celebrating the paintings of our best selling artist and crafter, Nikki Virbitsky! The opening reception is on January 13, 2007 at 906 Christian Street Philadelphia, PA 19147 Phone: 215.625.2424. Cocktails and hobnobbing from 5 to 9 p.m.

Mew customers are familiar with Nikki Virbitsky’s hand dyed and spun yarn, knit scarves, and tempting brass necklaces (they’re flying off the shelves!). Nikki’s talents, however, are not limited to jewelry making and crafting. She’s also a wildly talented painter. Her artistic vision is one filled with teenagers, candy, vintage toys, and the remains of pop culture. Her imaginative work is a delicious mishmash of syrupy cute and deviously eerie. Nikki’s paintings evoke visions of kitsch 50’s record art, today’s graffiti-riddled urban decay, and an irresistible sweet sincerity all splashed onto wooden boards. Step right up for this appealing collection of her carnival-like paintings because this is a show that can’t be missed.

Stupid Website

Friday, January 5th, 2007

Our website is stupid. I know. We’re working on it.
The store will be good. I promise.
Also, we’re going to have a section all about the workshops we’re offering. That will be good too.

In the meantime, here are some updates:

1. We are having another opening reception. We can’t figure out how to update the image for it but you can check out our myspace page for more info. www.myspace.com/mewgallery
The opening is january 13th from 5-9. The work is that of Miss Nikki Virbitsky. She is a genius. You will love it. You will come to the reception and you will have fun. The receptions here are always fun.

2. We started this craft night thing and it is neato. You come here any Thursday night at 6 p.m. and bring your friends. It costs $25. For that price you have full access to a wide variety of craft supplies. Glitter is a popular one but there’s also bigger stuff like sewing machines and decoupage makings. We also pump you full of wine if you are of legal drinking age. People like that part too. Email us if you want to sign up for craft night: info@mewgallery.org or call us: 215.625.2424. It’s better if you call or email us instead of just showing up because if you just show up we may not be here. We may have cancelled it. So call or email us to register. We’re nice. We won’t be mean. Don’t be afraid to call us. You can even come in before Thursday and register in person.

3. We will be offering two sewing workshops this month too. They will take place on Saturdays. You can learn the basics of sewing on a machine and maybe even make a bag or skirt using one of the simple Betsy Ross patterns we carry here at the shop. Stay tuned for more details…

4. We got lots of press this month. Eventually, links to that will be on the website too. Check us out in Philadelphia Style magazine, Philadelphia Magazine, and Where magazine. Yay!!
