Mew Gallery is devoted to promoting the work of local artists and Matt Volpe is just that. In fact, he is so local that he’s our neighbor from just a few doors down the street right here in the Italian Market! This “outsider” artist has devoted most of his time to painting: spending his days as a house painter and his nights holed up with his creative work, the majority of which has yet to be seen by the public eye. The rich layers, vibrant colors and graffiti-like overtones in this diverse body of work might even lead some to consider Matt a modern day Basquiat. Branding the name “Fyne Art”, Matt has developed a sincere, distinctive, urban style; incorporating found objects, journal sketches, house paint, ink, and written word.
