Isaac Bushkin is the best!! We heart him. You will too. The opening reception is April 7, 2007 at 906 Christian Street Philadelphia, PA 19147 Phone: 215.625.2424. Cocktails and hobnobbing from 5 to 9 p.m. Show runs through to May 18, 2007. Check him out as #1 in our top 8 right now.

Somewhere in between surrealist imagery and Saturday morning cartoons, former Philly artist, Isaac Bushkin mixes visual elements that remain seeded in layers of his subconscious. As he searches through honeycomb-like caverns of memories his hand guides a brush in response. His focus remains very much rooted in that of simple creatures and themes such as amorphous blob monsters with bunny ears searching for something that remains hidden from the audience, or mutant radishes living beneath the dirt peering out above the earth with flower shaped eye balls. In a playful way his work questions our interaction with nature. You may have seen his work walking down 2nd street during first Friday; paintings of birds and monsters on recycled materials such as found wood panels or Ikea floor samples, or his mural downstairs at Art Star Gallery in Northern Liberties. This new body of work focuses on themes of an uncertain journey and responses to the challenges one encounters along the way. For this show Isaac uses acrylic paint on wood to depict chaotic and peaceful scenes that super impose new and old ideas, pushing his work even further in detail and concept.
